The Allentown Art Festival Winning Poster Design
For over 20 years the Society has sponsored a contest for the design of the annual Allentown Art Festival poster, providing an opportunity for student artists to develop their talents and for professional artists to earn some income. The Allentown Village Society is pleased to announce the 2008 winning Poster Design displayed below:

Buffalo Public School Students, a Part of the Festival
The Buffalo Public Schools Art Education Department is pleased to announce the sponsorship of FIVE awards totaling $5,000.00 through the Allentown Village Society, Inc. (AVS).
Awards will be granted to schools whose art teachers have developed and submitted exemplary and unique art lessons.
Five Buffalo School art teachers will be awarded $1,000.00 each which should be used for art materials that specifically help in the successful implementation of each teacher’s proposed art lesson.
All submitted proposals were reviewed by art education evaluators using a scoring rubric. Five Allentown Village Society Grant awards of $1,000.00 have been distributed by to the following teachers:
Aimee-Wieler Gunn - Highgate Heights #80 "Understanding Post-Modern African-American Artists Through Literary and Art-Making Experiences"
Ann Curthoys - Waterfront #95 "Kaleidoscope of Cloth-Using Textiles for Artistic Expression"
Doreen Juszkiewicz - Waterfront #95 "We, The People…Cultural Connections in Building a Nation"
Michelle Schroeder - Burgard HS #301 & Carol Cureo - Bennett HS #200 "Screen Printing Shut In"
Rona Goldberger-Hecker - Community School #53 "Reaching Out of the Canvas, Into the World - Canvas Painting and Assemblage Portraiture"

Completed artwork by Buffalo Public School students based on these innovative lessons will be on display during the Allentown Art Festival, June 14 & 15, 2008.
The exhibit will be held under the tents at the northeast corner of Delaware Avenue and Edward Street.
Please visit our students and teachers, who will be on hand to explain their projects, and offer insights into the way that the lessons influenced them.
Allentown Village Society Art Scholarships
Scholarships are a major result of the work of the Allentown Village Society. Proceeds from the Annual Allentown Art Festival provide aid to many Buffalo and Erie County students. We are proud of the talent and dedication found in our local students. The Allentown Village Society will continue to encourage and support them in the pursuit of their chosen field.
